Communicating with other people, finding out how languages work and learning about different countries and cultures are some of the skills you will gain when you study GCSE French. You will be adding an international dimension to your GCSE qualifications, which is something many universities and future employers look for.

What Will You Do?  

  • You will be able to talk about yourself, and share your interests, ideas and opinions with others in French.
  • You will learn more about the culture of the countries where French is spoken.
  • You will learn many skills which are useful in a wide range of future careers, such as the ability to communicate clearly, being confident about speaking in public and using problem solving techniques.  
  • You will build on key topics covered in Key Stage 3 and move on to new topics. 
  • You will continue to develop your listening and speaking skills.
  • You will continue to develop your reading and writing skills.
  • You will continue to develop your literacy skills.
  • You will continue to develop your subject knowledge and increase your fluency in French.

How Will You Do It? 
You will take part in a variety of listening, speaking, reading and writing activities

You will work on your own, in pairs and in small groups

You may have the opportunity to go to France to use your skills in real-life context

What Qualifications Can You Obtain? 

Students are entered for either Foundation or Higher tier for all skills with GCSE grades 9 to 4 available on the Higher tier and grades 5 to 1 available on the Foundation tier.
