Year 7 Cricketers Crowned District Champions
The Year 7 cricket team were crowned District champions this year following two impressive victories.
Higham found themselves up against Ash Green in the quarter-finals, the team's success being particularly impressive as a number of the more experienced cricketers were unavailable due to club side commitments.
However, this opened up opportunities for three lads who had never played a competitive match in their lives - Zac Powell, Dean Cameron and Jacob Wilson - the trio doing a very creditable job to help steer the team to a comfortable win. Top scorer was Scott Allen, who retired following a quick-fire 23 after opening the batting.
After receiving a bye in the semis, Higham were back to full strength and bowled out St Thomas More in just half-an-hour.
The lads then picked off the runs quickly with Max Carter scoring the majority before Bailey Doughty-Walsh scored the winning runs with his first shot of the day.
Other notable performances in the final were four catches by Will Hughes, three by Tom Agnew, and a four-wickets-in-a-row maiden by James Banks.
Their reward for such an outstanding display? The meal of every elite athlete - Big Mac and fries courtesy of coach Mr Bottrill!
Well done lads, it's been a pleasure working with you.
